This mural was a bucket list (à la Kenny Chesney) item for me, something I’ve always wanted to do, and something I’m so grateful I had to opportunity to do. Because it was so big, it challenged my painting abilities in ways I had never thought about before. It’s a careful balance, to not get so wrapped up in the small details that you forget about the literal big picture you’re painting. My dad is a massive Kenny Chesney fan (as is my whole family), and when he wasn’t able to go to the Chillaxification concert due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my family was trying to bring more of the beachy influence into the house. The scenery is inspired by the trips we have taken to Hawaii over the years, so my goal in this mural was to capture the feeling of being there in our Alberta garage. The signs are what started this whole project: They are a reproduction of a Kenny Chesney band tee design for his Songs for The Saints album.
